Against all speculations, Governor Rochas Owelle Okorocha of Imo state has restated his commitment and that of his loyalists under the team of ‘Rescue Mission’ to remain the All Progressive’s Congress despite the in-house political crisis.
Okorocha said this yesterday while hosting South East Peace and Reconciliation Committee of the party led by Gov. Abdulahi, in Owerri, the state’s capital city.
For more than a month now, Okorocha, like some few other aggrieved APC state governors are at loggerhead with the national chairman of the ruling party, Adams Oshiomhole.
Like order governors, Okorocha has been exchanging banters with Oshiomhole because the former’s endorsed 2019 gubernatorial aspirant, Uche Nwosu, who used to be Imo Chief of Staff and also his son-in-law was rejected as the party’s flagbearer.
Instead, Senator Hope Uzodinma was given the ticket to contest under the party.
Ever since, there have been rumors that the disappointed aspirant, Nwosu will pitch his tent with another party before the INEC’s candidate’s substitution list window closes even while Okorocha is not relinquishing his massive support for his in-law’s gubernatorial ambition.
Although, Okorocha lamented that Imo state has only endured injustice from the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari yet his supporters are not quitting the party.
“If there is any injustice in the politics of Nigeria, Imo state is the headquarters”, he said.
According to him, the Rescue mission loyalists are not considering exit from APC in order to consolidate on the journey they embarked in 2015 and save their face from public humiliation, not because of what they have benefitted from President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We run a family government in Imo state, the reason that you see this people here today is not because they’ve benefitted so much from Buhari’s government, but because they don’t want to end the Journey they started sometime in 2015 so that they people will not laugh at them”.
However, Okorocha mentioned that his disappointment in the party came from Adams Oshiomhole, whom he said he brought into the APC fold to become the National Chairman of the party.
“Our issue is not against the party or the National working committee the issue we have is with a single person who is called Oshiomhole, because he stole the mandate of the people.
Against all the speculations that I am leaving the party is not true. This people that you have nominated today are in the party not because of Buhari, and I make bold to say that in the next couple of months they will dump APC”. Okorocha added.
Notably, Okorocha is contesting for the Senate under Imo West Senatorial district.
He’s been given the APC ticket as he completes his tenure as governor in 2019.
