The third citizen of Nigeria and Senate President, Bukola Saraki has discredited
the anti-corruption war by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.
He described the attempt to fight corruption as a propaganda rather than a reality.
Saraki, who is also the director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign organisation made this assertion on Channels TV on Wednesday.
Criticizing the attitude of prosecuting alleged corrupt public officials, he said:
“We go to the issue of corruption. I believe that is more of propaganda than reality. Why do I say that? Even by most of the world organisations, if you look at our indices in corruption, we have gone back. And more importantly what examples are they showing in the government and is anybody in the government been prosecuted in the public. None. Zero.”
“If truly the president is fighting corruption, I am baffled how a member of his government who they found wanting, up till today, no charge, no prosecution.
“To me, once you can’t do that, you lose the moral high ground to say that you are fighting corruption. You must show that nobody is above the law. You must show that no matter how close anybody is to you, you must take action and that’s not happening”, Saraki said.
