The Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has said he is ready to resign from office if that is ncessary for peace and security in the state.
He said this because of recurring stacks of bandits, who kill villagers and also kidnap residents for ransom.
In the past, state of emergency was declared in Plateau state under former president Olusegun Obasanjo when insecurity reached its climax like it is now in Zamfara state.
Following that declaration, the governor and his deputy vacated their offices for an initial period of six months.
Just last week, Mr. Yari also supported the call for state of emergency in Zamfara, which may rip him off his seat either temporarily or till the next election later this year.
Speaking with State House correspondents on Thursday after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Yari said ”I was not being political, we are talking about human lives here. If that is what will stop this thing, I am ready to step down, ” he said.
