Ondo state Police have arrested a thirty year old cocoa farmer, Segun Akande for the murder of a sixty -five year old grandmother, Mary Ogundiran at Ofosu, Idanre Local Government Area of the State.
The suspect, who allegedly killed the woman for plucking cocoa pods in his farm, was among nine others paraded by the State Commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju in Akure.
Akande was among nine suspects earlier arrested over various offences, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery to murder.
He however accused the deceased of regular stealing of cocoa pods on his farm which was why he beat her with a stick but never knew she would die.
Also paraded were three members of a cult group, known as Arobaga.
One of them, Oyebuchi Aningo, who claimed he was forcefully initiated to the confraternity, was arrested for raping a seventeen year-old girl.
The police command also paraded two notorious armed robbers, a serial burglar and recovered a single barrel gun and two pump action rifles.
The police commissioner said the command is doing everything possible to rid the state of criminals.
Adeyanju stated that the suspects will be charged to court to serve as deterrent to others.
