As late as 10:00pm on Sunday, some outrightly angry soldiers showed their anger at the Maiduguri international airport in Borno state as as they resisted embarking on a new assignment given to them which will require them face death in another local government of the same state.
Report is saying that these newly deployed soldiers reportedly arrived at the airport at 6pm ahead of their posting to Marte local government area but they regrouped and refused to board the aircraft which ought to convey them there.
They shot sporadically to express their protest against the redeployment.
In their refusal, they stated that they were supposed to be allowed to return back to their families and not to reposted for such a dangerous assignment.
In the account of an eyewitness officer, superior officers, including Bulami Biu, general officer commander (GOC) of 7 division, were asked to stay off the airport or risk being shot.
“The second batch of pilgrims from Borno boarded their flight amid the commotion,” the source said.
“The special forces are ready for trouble. They are really angry. The superiors were asked to stay off or be killed.”
