…Reveals Why Proposed June 12 Protest Will Fail
A former house of representatives member representing Ondo East/Ondo West, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja has commissioned a new road in Ondo, his country home to mark his 71st birthday.
Akinlaja, born on the 1st of June 1950 is from Ondo West local government area of Ondo state.
The 4KM road, according to Akinlaja, was constructed to give back to the people in the kingdom for their show of love to him over the years. He noted that the project is more unique to him ashe did it outside the “position of power”.
“Yesterday, I commissioned 4km Asphalted road here in Ondo which I constructed. This was done by me outside the position of power and I don’t have contracts awarded to me. Yet, people converged in this great number to celebrate me. I’m really fulfilled and happy.
According to him, “I feel fulfilled because of the grace of God in my life. Among the nine children of my parent, I’m the only one who crossed the 70 years line.
“I also used this opportunity to bring everybody in Ondo kingdom and beyond together across party and religious divides. You can see ZLP, PDP, APC, ADC, SDP and every other political party members here. Even non partisans people are here to celebrate with me. It shows the unity in the kingdom and I feel fulfilled.
“My aim of celebrating this birthday has been achieved with this show of unity.
” There will be more books to be written. This book will not be the last.”
The book, titled ‘Labour, Politics and Grace’ was earlier launched in Abuja by the former labour leader with Senator Tayo Alasoadura, the Minister (State) of Niger Delta Affairs as the Chairman.
There is a planned Nationwide protest billed for June 12 over the issue of insecurity and maladministration in the country. Akinlaja said it will be great if the protest can go on as planned.
He however noted that the division across religions, political parties and ethnic groups in the country will prevent the protest from being a success.
“If the protest billed for June 12 can be held all over the country, it is going to be a great phenomenon. Ethnicity, tribalism and religion are the problem we face in this country.
“The country is divided into Northern and Southern region. Don’t be surprised that this protest will not hold in the northern region. It is not because they love Buhari but because of tribalism and religion.
” The lack of unity occasioned by tribalism will make the June 12 protest fail.” He said.
